Our Partners

The scholarship fund has been established with the blessing of the Baker family and in partnership with The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region (CFGCR). CFGCR is an independent, not-for-profit, community supported and tax-exempt organization founded to meet the needs of charitable organizations. Recognizing the importance of scholarship, especially with decreasing funds for education at the federal level and increasing educational costs for students, we are fortunate to have CFGCR administer the Coach Ken Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund.

As part of this effort, and with input from the Baker family and CFGCR, a scholarship committee has been formed whose job it is to work with CFGCR to develop the scholarship criteria, participate in the selection of the scholarship recipients and grant the awards each year. This committee is comprised of community leaders, business people and educators who loved and respected Coach Baker and who are dedicated to improving the quality of life in our communities.

Since its inception in 2008, the Fund has raised more than $200,000 through both individual and corporate contributions, as well as an annual golf tournament and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. We were able to award our first scholarships in 2009. The principal funds raised will never be touched — but dividends that will result from the investment of these funds by CFGCR will be used each year for the scholarships. As a result, the Coach Ken Baker Memorial Scholarship will continue for many years to come.

Our Sponsors

Since the fund’s inception, we have been fortunate to receive an outpouring of support from individuals and businesses. Many sponsors have been recognized at our annual weekend of events. Our 2022 featured sponsor is Suttonscapes, a full-service landscaping company founded by David Sutton.
